Some types of plant like cranes, concrete placing booms, boilers, lifts and amusement devices must be registered prior to use. They can be registered with us or with another work health and safety regulator.
Item registration is required under Clause 702A of the WHS Regulation 2017 until 1 January 2020, which effectively maintains the item registration process and definitions as used in the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation 2001, with the exception that passenger ropeways and water slides no longer require item registration. Requirements after 01 January 2020 will be updated on this website.
Design registration. Some types of plant are excluded from design registration by Clause 702A of the WHS Regulation 2017, namely:
- plant designed prior to 1 September 2001,
- non-powered amusement devices and concrete placing booms designed prior to 1 January 2012, and
- passenger ropeways and fixed concrete placing booms designed prior to 13 February 2015.
Plant item registration
The use or maintenance of these types of plant must be registered with us by the owner, lessee or controller of the plant.
Plant design registration
You may need to register the design of some types of plant (such as some hoists, amusement devices, work platforms and cranes) because that plant has the potential to be dangerous.
Cancelling plant registration
We can cancel a plant item or plant design registration for a number of reasons.
